So, Amazon came through and provided a preorder link. Really fast. See link below the Preorder image. In addition, I got notified that Z Publishing House released the Georgia Emerging Writers Anthology I mentioned earlier this year. That link is below the cover for it. 😀 It’s a paperback so it’s a bit more expensive but you get to see all kinds of other stories. They are all short, less than 1250 words each. While building this post (over the course of several hours because of other things), I found out that a third anthology recently released that has my 300 word flash fiction in it. Impact: Queer Sci Fi’s Fifth Annual Flash Fiction Contest. Whoa. Things just real, really fast. 🙂

So, readers. I’m an officially published author with multiple publications under my belt. How did that happen? A lot of work. Thank you Emmy, the POC FB Group, J. Scott Coatsworth

So, I was invited to join this anthology by the publisher, Z Publishing House, way back in May. I was able to pick and submit 5 options, on my birthday no less. A month later, they’d picked one! The Lotto Ticket was a submission I did to a Fantasy and Science Fiction Flash Fiction contest that would turn your 500 word submission into a podcast. Well, I didn’t make it past the first round, and it had been languishing since. I did a few edits but basically left it the way it was written and near the 500 words. I liked the story a lot for being so short. This is a paperback but you do get to see other emerging writers from the lovely state of Georgia that I call home. They run the gamut of stories, and not just LGBTQ or even romance. I think you will like it.

About Z Publishing House:

Having begun as a blog in the fall of 2015, Z Publishing, LLC, soon transitioned into book publishing. This transition came in response to the major problem currently plaguing the publishing world: For writers, finding new readers can be tremendously difficult, and for readers, finding new talented authors with whom they identify is like searching for a needle in a haystack. With Z Publishing, no longer will anyone have to go about this process alone. By producing anthologies of multiple authors rather than single-author volumes, Z Publishing hopes to foster a community of readers and writers, bringing all sides of the industry closer together.

Welcome to Impact.

Series Blurb:

It’s hard to tell a story in just 300 words. Each year we ask writers to take the challenge, turning in stories across the queer spectrum. The rules are simple. Write a complete sci fi, fantasy, paranormal or horror story, include LGBTIQA characters, and do it all with just 300 carefully chosen words.

Excerpt (Non-Exclusive):

Since this book is composed of stories of no more than 300 words, we can’t really do a standard excerpt, so we’re offering you the teaser first lines from a number of stories.

Synopsis

Albert Manlii has walked this earth for more than two thousand years, but survival on his own was never easy. Now he leads a faction of highly organized vampires who carefully guard the secret of their existence. Unlike the old days, potential recruits are carefully selected and presented with an offer.

Phillip Brewer has weeks to live—if he lets his disease run its course. He doesn’t want to die, but given a choice, will his desire to live outweigh his concerns about the vampires’ ethics?

When the new recruit’s missteps are cause for concern, can Albert control the fallout, or will Phillip’s life once again be torn apart?

Excerpt

The man moved to the bench and raised a brow in a welcoming fashion, silently inviting Phillip to join him. Phillip shrugged. He’d planned to sit here anyway, so why not have a conversation with a pleasant man while he did it?

“My name’s Albert.” He held out a hand, and Phillip shook it. The hand felt cooler than Phillip expected for someone walking on a warm day, but not exceptionally so. Perhaps he had a fever himself, and that made the man’s hand seem cooler than normal.

“Phillip.” He didn’t elaborate. There wasn’t anything he could think of to add. Small talk eluded him.

“I’m pleased to meet you, Phillip.” Albert paused, as if gathering his thoughts.

“Likewise.” Phillip kept his reply simple. Oddly enough, something about the gravity of Albert’s demeanor gave him the impression the man had directed him to the bench with a purpose in mind that had nothing to do with idle chit-chat, so he might as well let the man control the conversation. Albert didn’t give off a crazed serial-killer vibe, not that it would matter at this point as long as whatever he chose to do didn’t add pain to Phillip’s death. Not likely he’d try anything like that in broad daylight with people around, anyway.

Albert looked directly into his eyes with a steady gaze. “Phillip, I want to show you something, and I ask that you keep an open mind and hear me out before reacting.”

Phillip sat back. He hadn’t developed any expectations for this conversation, but if he had, this direction wasn’t anything he would have considered.

“I think we can help each other,” Albert continued.

“I’m dying,” Phillip said. He would have thought his appearance made that apparent, but perhaps not. “Whatever you have in mind, I’m sorry, but I won’t be able to make a deal with you.”

“Please, hear me out.” Albert held out an arm. “This seems like an unusual request, I know, but I’d like you to examine my arm. Go ahead and touch it. I want you to assure yourself that it is, indeed, my real arm and not any kind of advanced prosthetic or makeup designed to create a special effect.”

Phillips eyes widened. “Unusual request” was putting it lightly. But what the hell, he might as well add an interesting interlude to his final hours—or minutes, if this man turned out to be a homicidal maniac.

He put both hands on the well-shaped forearm. He felt for a pulse at the wrist and found one. The hairs appeared natural and moved appropriately as Phillip ran his hand across them. Veins were visible where expected. Phillip manipulated the man’s fingers and wrist. The bones on the back of Albert’s hand, and tendons at the inside of his wrist, moved correctly, becoming more or less prominent when the hand flexed. Then he lightly pinched Albert’s skin in various places. It felt perfectly normal, although still slightly cooler than usual.

When Phillip withdrew his hands, Albert lowered his arm. “Are you satisfied that this is indeed my natural arm?”

“Yes.” Phillip eyed him warily.

“Remember, keep an open mind and maintain your composure. Give me the opportunity to explain what you’re about to see.”

Weirder and weirder. Phillip narrowed his eyes but remained curiously drawn to hearing this man out. “All right.”

Albert took a quick glance around, and Phillip followed his gaze. The people he’d noticed earlier were still in sight, but nobody new had appeared.

Phillip held his breath when a small razor blade appeared in Albert’s other hand. Albert slowly drew the blade across the arm Phillip had just examined, cutting deeply enough for the tissue to separate. There was no way it was a fake blade merely drawing atop his skin. He was cutting deeply, but the blood that appeared was black, not red, and the gash closed up within seconds as the razor dragged up the length of that forearm.

“What the hell.” Phillip gasped and fought to keep his respiration steady as he turned to stare at Albert’s face. He’d been so riveted by what was happening to the man’s arm, he’d neglected to check his expression. Had that hurt? Albert’s face was tight, so maybe, although his mask of calm quickly returned.

“Do you trust your own eyes?” Albert asked. The razor disappeared into a pocket, replaced by a cloth handkerchief, which he used to wipe the remaining dark fluid—blood?—from his arm.

“I’ll admit I’m drugged up, but nothing that would explain that.” He’d pointedly requested medication that would not cause him to hallucinate or overly diminish his ability to reason. There was no point dragging out his life if he couldn’t consciously enjoy it.

He’d seen plenty of street magic in his day. Sleight of hand, etcetera, but this transcended all of that. There was simply no logical explanation for what he’d just seen.

“You accept what you just witnessed at face value?”

Phillip pursed his lips a moment before replying. “Okay. Yes. Obviously, there’s something superhuman about you.” Or he wasn’t human at all. An alien maybe?

“That’s one way to put it,” Albert said. “I was once fully human, but now…no, not quite human anymore.”

Phillip sat still as he digested that comment. Albert had “once” been human. He’d also approached Phillip—seemingly sought him out—and he’d said, “I think we can help each other.” Was there more than one logical deduction to make here?

“Please.” Phillip swallowed as a shiver of hope drifted over his skin. “I need you to spell out what you meant—earlier. Before your demonstration.”

Albert smiled. It was the smile of a man who sensed he had his fish on the hook. “About helping each other?”

Phillip nodded.

“You don’t need to die yet. I’ve been walking this earth for more than two thousand years.” Albert spoke calmly as Phillip froze in place, clenching his hands at his belly.

Two thousand years? And he wanted to make a deal with Phillip?

Did Phillip want to? What was in it for him? Everlasting life, apparently. But would it be an existence he wanted? “Who are you? You’re immortal. But how?”

“Immortal in the sense that I, and others like me, won’t appear to become older beyond our age at the time of transition. Nor will we die of natural causes. We can be killed, though. You’ve witnessed my self-healing abilities, but anything that would instantly kill a human will kill me…us, too.”

“So, if I agreed, this cancer would disappear just like that?” Phillip snapped his fingers.

“Like all of our ‘supernatural’ capabilities, self-healing improves over time. As a new convert, you won’t immediately feel better. It’ll take about a day for you to feel one hundred percent.”

That was hardly a deterrent, but Albert was obviously holding back. What facilitated this “transition”? “You still haven’t answered the question. Who are your people?”

Albert hesitated for a moment before replying. “The word you’re searching for is ‘vampire.’”

Phillip burst out laughing. He didn’t know what the hell he’d been thinking Albert’s answer would be, but the existence of some kind of magical immortality potion was difficult enough to believe without throwing in something that absurd.

Albert’s revelation probably should have made Phillip run in the opposite direction—if he’d believed it, or made him angry—because really, what kind of person fucked with a dying man like that? But at least his final hours were diverting. “You had me going there for a while.”

Tilting his head to the side, Albert raised a single eyebrow as he continued to gaze at Phillip. “Not the usual reaction. Intriguing, though. You don’t believe me, do you?”

“Please,” Phillip scoffed and gestured toward the bright sun overhead.

Book Tour + Giveaway: His to Claim (Black Hills Wolves) by @ParisBrandon #PNR #Romance #Giveaway

If
you’re a newcomer to the Black Hills Wolves community of Los Lobos, welcome! If
you’re a long-time reader, I hope my second story will live up to the evolving
world that the creative authors in this series have continued to expand. I am
truly thankful for being included.
After
I finished my first Black Hills Wolves story, His to Protect, one of the
characters wouldn’t leave me alone. No, there weren’t any handsome hunks
besides Gunnar Redmond hanging around begging for their own story. Instead, a
secondary character who happened to be a seething mass of rage dared me to peel
away the layers and see the real man. Ray Decker appeared briefly in His to
Protect, but every character has a story and his includes a son, J.D., the hero
of His to Claim.
Being
an author is a little like being a detective, and with each book, uncovering
secrets and discovering what makes my characters tick usually becomes an
addictive adventure. Trust me, there were mornings I couldn’t wait to get to
the computer. The characters took me down a few dark roads but I’m a great
believer in the strength of the human spirit, and above all, love and
forgiveness. I hope you enjoy their journey!
He’s home to find the truth…
Once
he’s over the initial shock of hearing his father hasn’t been dead for the past
twelve years, J.D. Decker vacillates between joy and anger until he returns to
Los Lobos and finds the man who sent him away threatening Bree Redmond, the
only other person he’s ever cared about as much.
After
years of living under a harsh alpha, Bree Redmond is intent on experiencing
everything life has to offer, and ignoring her family’s wishes that she settle
on a mate and help rebuild the Tao pack. When J.D. Decker jumps out of his
truck, and back into her life, she realizes why she’s never been eager to settle.
They
aren’t kids anymore and J.D. has Bree howling at the moon and questioning her
desire for nothing more than a sexy romp in the woods. He’s a blunt force and
rough around the edges, but he ignites all of her deepest desires with his
single-minded determination to make her his.
Bree’s
family isn’t happy about her budding romance with the son of a man they feel is
responsible for the death of one of their own. Old wounds are reopened and as
tempers flare Bree must decide whether to let a dark secret from the past
separate them, or defy her family and accept J.D.’s claiming.

Ghost Wolf by Hurri Cosmo #LGBT #Contemporary #Romance #Review #Mystery

Moonbeams over Atlanta welcomes author Hurri Cosmo! Published by Painted Hearts Publishing LLC on January 18, 2018 and is 390 pages.

The Blurb:

Hi, my name is Trevor. I’m a wolf shifter. I say that like I know what I’m talking about. I don’t. I was simply running off a ton of steam one day when I was about eleven and bam! Okay, not quite that easy or fast but it happened when I was young and stupid. I’m also gay. I say that like I know what I’m talking about with that too. I simply don’t.

I’m grown up now and living in the big city which has me too busy to much care about either one of those things. I get out and run my wolf when I can, trying like hell to stay out of the local pack’s territories. Belonging to a “family” just sounds like too much work. I honestly don’t have time for such things. Besides, I was told when I was young the color of my wolf was all wrong. Too silver I guess. Metallic. I thought it looked cool in the full moon. “An Alpha would kill ya soon as look at ya.” My grandpa used to say. Course he wasn’t my real grandpa. Just an old man who lived down the street. But he was a shifter too and I thought he knew it all. He probably knew diddly shit either but a guy can’t be too careful.

So romance? Way off the radar.

But then someone started killing wolves. Started leaving lined up broken bodies all in a nice little row next to the high school in my home town and it got me to thinking. If a shifter is killed in his or her wolf state, does he/she stay that way? Were these dead wolves like me?

I had to see what I could do. Kind of like a super hero. Oh yeah. Probably forgot to tell you this. I can turn invisible.

Yep, Ghost Wolf to the rescue.

The Review:

Thank you IndiGo for the book in exchange for an honest review.

4 Stars

bluestarclipartbluestarclipartbluestarclipartbluestarclipart

It’s not often I find a first person paranormal story as interesting as this one. An invisible wolf? I had to know more. Then there was the mystery/suspense factor and I couldn’t waiting to read it. In fact, I read it in two sittings in about two days. There were a couple of places where I wasn’t sure who was talking since it was told in first person, but you really got into Trevor and his misconceptions about wolves and shifters based on one older wolf in his neighborhood. Secrets abound, and Trevor finds out more than he thought possible. It was a fascinating read and Hurri did a great job of detailing this world Trevor found himself in. I had read one other story in 2016 and enjoyed that one as well. I plan on find other books to read. There is a HEA and how Trevor and Ryan, the man he finds in a bar as his fated mate, find each other right when Ryan had given up finding his other half. While there is fate mates going on, it’s not the forefront and the mystery of Trevor’s history and his powers is foremost and makes it an easy way to get away for awhile. How Trevor thinks and talks is vastly amusing and I smiled through most of the story. There are some rough spots, especially past bullying, but for the most part is great read. I would recommend reading about Trevor and his antics with his mate. Trevor’s friends are fun secondary characters and I wouldn’t mind seeing some of those show up in a sequel.

Overall, I give Ghost Wolf 4 out of 5 stars.

About the Author:

Hi, my name is Hurri Cosmo and I am a happy ending junkie. I always have been. You can be pretty rest assured everything I write will have one. I am not big on angst. I believe we get enough of that in real life so when I go to read something, to make the real world go away for awhile, I will most likely not chose something that will make me cry. So I write for those people who, at least occasionally, feel the same way. I’m okay with the fact I will probably never write anything “important” but I guess I will have to see where my imagination takes me. I would love it if you would come along.

I’m on a roll and blog moving #musings #amwriting #brainstorming #bloggingworldproblems

Found this image on the internet. Not using a typewriter but a computer, but I thought it was cool. Yes, I’m writing now, as I and my co-author have time. We’re working on that story I posted about at the end of January. Not for the original submission but to submit to either a publisher or on our own when we’re done. We had a productive evening. Got some words written, a scene redone, and brainstormed a couple more chapters.

Unfortunately, I’ve been in pain for the better part of a couple of weeks, so a lot of things are going slowly. Thank goodness that work slowed a little last week so I could catch up on some of my non-billable stuff, and get looked at for all of the issues I have had. Got lots of dental issues that I’m working on this month with most of it dealt with by the beginning of March. Going to have to take some days off as they involve surgery. Not fun going under the knife twice. Last time I had roof-of-the-mouth surgery was when I was a teen revealing an impacted tooth for braces. The irony is not lost on me that one of the surgeries is to correct an abscess behind the same tooth… I’m getting old. Sigh. 🙂 But, I’m getting excited about writing more, so I’ll take it. Just have a few Real Life bumps along the way. Isn’t that how it always works out?

Looks like I’ll finish up some thoughts and a scene and then go take a pain pill and go to bed again. I took a nap earlier which is probably why I’m vertical now. Partners went to a friends party this evening so I expect they won’t be home until late. I will like be asleep, or wish I was, by then. Stupid pain.

I have some ideas bouncing around for another WIP my co-author and I were working on last year, or maybe the year before? Time has a tendency to slip by me when I work too much. Here’s hoping it don’t slam me again. I want to have time to finish a project. 😀 I plan to be more involved in writing. Next week will be signing up for GRL 2018, I hope. I plan on road-tripping to Virginia in October. If anyone in the area wants a ride we can work something out. Not sure what car I’m driving but likely a Prius. I do plan on bringing some books back…

Well, I’m going to sign off for the night. I’m going to try to update more often here. Note: I will be moving this blog from WordPress to my web hosted WordPress site eventually. For those that follow me, you will probably have to re-follow but I will keep everyone posted so you can jump on that when the time comes. This is so I can manage everything in one place and that http://blog.eloreenmoon.com/ actually stays and I don’t pay to redirect. 🙂 Anybody out there a WordPress guru and an help me move my blog? Cheaply? Struggling writer here. I’ve got most of it transferred with the free tools but having issues still, and haven’t had time to look into it again. Heck, I could use a webmaster as I need to do up my eloreenmoon.com website too. I figured I can deal with that after my blog moves. Anyway, contact me (social media, the blog contact form, or comment a contact here) if you can help or point me to tools that could work. WordPress and blog technology is driving me crazy. I’ve tried a couple but both sides (my domain host and WordPress) want money if they do it. Which, I’m leaning towards being fine with paying for it, but I don’t have it yet and I’d rather not pay WordPress. Maybe when some royalties come in. 😉 At least that is the plan this year.

OK, I’m really going to stop babbling. Here’s to a new writing year and getting things accomplished.

Eloreen

That was some excellent brainstorming. #amwriting

Whoa. I just finished a chapter of a new work in progress for a submission prompt due at the end of the month I’m writing with a friend and co-author. We did some brainstorming last weekend and today, started a document with the beginnings of the outline of the story, and then I added to it this afternoon/evening while she was doing another engagement.

I finished up work (on call, it happens) this evening, and felt the need for speed… writing. The need for writing. Sorry, bad movie puns. 🙂 I started around 10:30 pm, maybe earlier, and finished the first “chapter” 3 hours later. It’s rough. There will probably be lots of edits. But, it’s written. Almost 3000 words. Not bad for a rusty writer. *grin*

This feels really good. One of my goals this year (yeah, work has been rough so I haven’t posted much) is to write more and possibly get something published. I think my co-author and I might just make it this time. We’ll have to see how it plays out. Even if we don’t make the deadline for the original submission, we plan on finishing it anyway. How it gets published is anyone’s guess.

I’m going to stop now and go to sleep. Hopefully, my partner in crime will be available tomorrow to finish fleshing things out and we can get the proposal and 2-3 chapters ready to send. I feel good about this. Wish us luck and I’ll keep you posted on progress as I can.

No one EVER had a summer romance like this. When Charlie visited another plane parallel to our own, he discovered that Summer Angels and Dark Angels battle over the fate of man. Faced with choices no one should ever have to make, his adventure has been fraught with twists and turns, with life and death hanging in the balance. His guardian, Clarisse, is the half that makes him whole, but sinister forces conspire to do more than simply keep them apart. Find out if they can stand up to the powers that be in this THRILLING MAGICAL ADVENTURE!!! (New adult)
Summer Angel – A Summer Spirit Novella… What would you do if you discovered Guardian Angels are real?
Charlie and his parents had planned a fabulous summer vacation; the last one before he heads off to college. Things go mysteriously awry when the young man meets Clarisse; he finds himself separated from his parents and on a different sort of holiday.
Caught up in a strange adventure with the slender blonde, Charlie learns right away that things are not what they seem. She easily convinces him that her magical powers are real, and introduces him to a world mankind has only dreamt of. Promising to have him reunited with his family soon, the girl takes him on a gallery walk of life, using her abilities to give him a summer vacation he will never forget… and then again, may not even survive.
Dark Angel – A Summer Spirit Novella… Can your Guardian Angel simply walk away?
Charlie and his girlfriend met last summer, after his awakening from a near death experience. Their love grew while his body healed, and after a few short months, he had come to believe she was the girl of his dreams. But Donna has a secret; one she had never intended to share with the love of her life.
While Charlie’s physical being had lain in a hospital, his spirit had traveled to another dimension – her world – where the forces of light and dark collide. When he had returned to the living side of consciousness, Clarisse stole Donna’s body, claiming it and giving herself a second chance at life and love. Of course, people who die are meant to stay dead, and there will be rough times ahead as Keeper, head of the angels, decides how to put things back in order…
Forgotten Angel – A Summer Spirit Novella… Can love transcend death for a Guardian Angel?
When Clarisse took her own life, she wanted to spare Charlie’s suffering at the hands of Gous. He watched her die in a most gruesome fashion, and had to learn to live without the girl of his dreams in the physical sense. Instead, he managed to maintain contact with her, and brought new meaning to the term ‘long-distance relationship.’
In the weeks following their separation, Charlie returns to his home town. A commanding presence, the temptation to meddle in the lives of those around him becomes overwhelming. as does Clarisse’s desire to interfere with his. Tempers flare, and the girl flees, leaving him at the mercy of Gous and the dark path that lays before him. By a twist of Fate, Charlie’s world spins further out of control, and he sets off to find her on what could be his road to redemption. Will their love survive when he discovers the truth about his abilities? Or will the powers that be finally claim their forgotten angel…

Anyone who knows me could tell you, I am a friendly kind of person, never met a stranger and take up conversations anywhere at any time. I work hard, and my mind never seems to shut down, as I wake up often in the middle of the night with ideas pouring out and demanding to be dealt with. Of course that means much of my books were written in the middle of the night.

I grew up and still live in the great state of Texas where everything is bigger, where we have warm weather and a central location. I love my state, my town, and my family, which includes my four sons, my significant other, and many friends as well.

I have thoroughly enjoyed writing the books that are currently available and hope you will enjoy reading them just as much. And of course, there will be many more stories to come.
